Ex-Clarendon pupil nominated as US ambassador to South Africa
Lana Marks, an American fashion designer born and raised in East London, has been nominated as the US ambassador to South Africa.
US President Donald Trump is reportedly considering Marks' credentials, but it is accepted her appointment will be ratified shortly.
Known as a "designer to the stars", Marks is responsible for the exclusive Lana Marks Handbag Collection often seen at red-carpet events and worn by celebrities such as Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston, Helen Mirren, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon and Paris Hilton.
The Lana Marks diamond-decorated Cleopatra Clutch, and inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, is one of her signature products, and was seen around the world when Helen Mirren wore it to accept her Best Actress Oscar in 2007.
Lana was born and raised in East London, where she attended Clarendon High School.
She later moved to the US and now lives and works out of Palm Beach in Florida.
