What's that Book?
Famous Dinosaurs of Africa

dinosaursAuthors: Anusuya Chinsamy-Turan and Luis V. Rey (Illustrator)
Published  by Struik

Famous Dinosaurs of Africa is written for children, but has broad appeal for anyone interested in learning more about dinosaurs. A brief  general introduction is followed by short chapters on dinosaur species, among them those that were fish-eating, sociable, predatory, etc, as well as those that were cannibals, and the biggest  meat-eating dinosaur of all time – the thread being that they all come from Africa. Details are given about where they were found, the meaning of their scientific names, and their size and diet. Spectacular, colourful illustrations bring the creatures vividly to life; photographs, maps and line drawings further illustrate the subject, while ‘Unsolved’ and ‘Up close’ panels add to the intrigue. With a large, pull-out poster, this is a most attractive and inspirational book.

I don’t like chocolate
i_dont_like_chocolateAuthor: Jesse Breytenbach
Published by Oshun

Jesse Breytenbach has been reading comics since primary school and eating food for even longer. She was born in Grahamstown, grew up in Grahamstown and studied in Grahamstown, where she received an MFA in Printmaking from Rhodes University. It is therefor quite understandable that her first book would be a comic book. It is however a comic book with a difference. It took me a while to get “into” this book, but because it is about my favourite thing ... food ... I persisted! Once I got into the book though, I even forgot to nibble on my snacks and the tea got cold. In I don’t like chocolate, our heroine confronts hidden raisins, fights off ninja cookies and works out why macaroni and cheese makes her feel warm and fuzzy. With stories and illustrations this sweet and satisfying, who needs chocolate?
